Word Counter Tool
FAQ
What can the Word Counter tool do?
This tool provides instant statistics for your text, including: characters (with spaces), characters (without spaces), word count, line count, paragraph count, and sentence count. It is useful for writing, translation, content formatting, and text analysis.
How do I count text?
Paste or type your text into the input area. The statistics cards on the right will update automatically in real time. No button clicks are required; all calculations are performed locally.
How is the word count calculated?
Words are counted as sequences of characters separated by spaces. Mixed language content (e.g., Chinese, English, numbers) is split using common delimiters like spaces and punctuation to provide an accurate estimate.
How are paragraphs defined?
Paragraphs are split by two or more consecutive line breaks (blank lines). Multiple consecutive blank lines are treated as a single paragraph separator; blank lines themselves are not counted.
How are sentences counted?
The tool supports both Chinese and English punctuation as sentence delimiters, accurately handling mixed-language content. Sentence delimiters include:
- Chinese punctuation: periods (。), question marks (?), exclamation points (!)
- English punctuation: periods (.), question marks (?), exclamation points (!)
The tool splits text based on these delimiters and filters out empty fragments, making it suitable for most Chinese-English mixed content scenarios.
How is reading time estimated?
Reading time is estimated based on the word count, assuming an average reading speed of about 200 words per minute (applicable to both Chinese and English mixed text). The result is rounded up to the nearest minute, with a minimum of 1 minute. This is an estimate and actual reading speed may vary.
Can I copy the statistics results?
Yes. Click the 'Copy statistics' button to copy all statistics as plain text (one metric per line) to the clipboard, ready for pasting into documents or reports.
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. All counting is performed locally in your browser. The text is never uploaded, stored, or sent to any server.
